Synopsis

Marathon Before Menopause combines stark honesty with offbeat humour and emotional depth in a bittersweet dramedy that offers a fresh take on fertility, aging, and the unexpected paths to love, family, and self-acceptance.

Sara, an unfiltered and independent 45-year-old Icelandic journalist, is suddenly confronted with her declining fertility. Determined to have a child before it’s too late, she embarks on a journey for motherhood, which is driven by yearning and, at times, absurdity.

Everything changes when she meets Rasmus, a mysterious Danish tantra therapist whose unconventional treatments draw her into an intense relationship that breaks through her emotional barriers. As truths unfold and connections unravel, Sara must confront what she truly seeks: Was it ever a child? Was it perhaps emotional safety and partnership? Or simply a sense of belonging? Surrounded by a vivid mix of friends, misfits, and challenges, she navigates love, fear, and self-discovery with both humor and heart.
